Keeping Business Data Secure Online

As useful and beneficial as the internet is, it’s not without its share of risks. Specifically, there are many people who would like nothing more than to gain access to networks, servers and websites and find information they wouldn’t otherwise have access too.

This is, in many ways, a serious security risk. As a result, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to understand the major importance of online security. There are various methods of staying secure online. As such, it may be important to conduct regular testing to make sure the methods you have chosen are working.

Security Testing

It’s important to always test your security, so you know how strong it is. As such, security testing is something you should aim to do on a regular basis, using such services to ensure that your security systems and software are at their best.

This is something that needs to be done as often as possible, especially when you upgrade or change the system. The security of today will not be as adequate later on in the future, for instance, so it helps to keep a constant, up to date record of your security and safety options.

Penetration Testing

Of course, it’s one thing to simply test the level of security you have, it’s another to actually put it through its paces and see the results. Yet this is exactly what pen testing does. By physically penetrating the defences, such a test will give you realistic results that mimic an actual breach from someone else. As such, this can pick up the various loop holes or access points that you may have simply overlooked.

This includes testing the likes of DDoS attacks, or Distributed Denial of Service. A DDoS often attacks your servers in mass in a bid to overwhelm them, causing both traffic and security issues for any server. As such, this is an area that should be actively stress tested to know what the limits of your actual server are.

Likewise, testing can be used to make sure you are compliant with various security standards, such as the PCI DSS needed to perform debit and credit transactions online. Again, this is something that should be done regularly, to ensure that you stay compliant at all times. Financial information is a big target online, so being able to take transactions and other financial details securely is crucial.
